UAPB Golden Lions SWAC opponent Prairie View A&M football will be ineligible for postseason play according to a letter sent to Prairie View Athletics on May 15.

The program is ineligible for postseason play due to multiple seasons of low Academic Performance Rates (APR), according to the letter obtained by HBCUGameday.com

The letter from Prairie View A&M Compliance to student athlete’s states:

“This correspondence serves as official notification that the PVAMU Football program is ineligible for postseason competition for the 2020-21 academic year. The penalty comes from falling below the required academic benchmark set for an institution’s Academic Performance Rate (APR). The central purpose of the NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program is to ensure the institutions are dedicated to providing student-athletes with an exemplary education and intercollegiate athletics experience in an environment that recognizes and supports the primacy of the academic’s mission of its member institutions while enhancing the ability of student-athletes to earn a degree.

Per NCAA guidelines, if you are your final year of competition you may request a transfer without penalty; however, inter-conference transfer rules still apply. If you desire to be released from Prairie View A&M University, please notify Ms. Brittney Johnson in writing no later than June 15, 2020. Also if you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Johnson as well.

Thank you,

Brittney N. Johnson

Associate Athletic Director, Compliance

Prairie View A&M University”

The UAPB Golden Lions are scheduled to play Prairie View A&M at Simmons Bank Field on October 31.
