UAPB Cross Country: Golden Lions Wrap Up 2024 SWAC Championship

Tallahassee, FL. —  The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s and women’s cross country teams concluded their season on Monday at the Southwestern Athletics Conference Championship, held at Apalachee Regional Park and hosted by Florida A&M. The women’s team finished the season in sixth place with a total of 164 points, completing the 5K race in 1:50:53.20. Meanwhile, the men’s team secured eighth place with 173 points and a total time of 2:36:14.60 in the 8k.

Women’s Cross Country  
UAPB had two runners among the competition’s top 30 finishers out of 75. Graduate Abigail Pinnock led the Golden Lions, placing 22nd with a time of 20:58.8, earning 21 points. She was closely followed by junior Kris-Ann Plummer, who finished 28th in 21:39.4, contributing 27 points.

Senior Kaiel Kimble placed 35th with a time of 22:10.1, earning 34 points. Senior Akili Pleas-Carnie followed closely, finishing 38th with a time of 22:16.4 and accumulating 40 points, both finishing within the top 40. Sophomore Ashley Robinson crossed the finish line in 51st place with a time of 23:48.5, scoring 45 points.

Men’s Cross Country  
On the men’s side, the Golden Lions had two runners finish in the top 30 out of 66 participants in the 8K race. Sophomore Inertia Mugethi achieved an impressive fifth place overall with a time of 26:31.4, scoring 5 points, and was named to the Southwestern Athletics Conference (SWAC) First-Team All-Conference. Senior Terrance Johnson finished 16th, rounding out the top 30 and earning 16 points with a time of 27:32.8.

Senior Genesis Joseph placed 34th, scoring 34 points with a time of 29:19.5. He was followed by senior Che’ Rochford, who finished 59th in 36:11.4, scoring 58 points, and junior Mohamed Soumare, who placed 61st in 36:39.5, earning 60 points. Junior Anson Moses completed the championship with a 63rd-place finish in 37:54.2, scoring 62 points.

With the conclusion of the 2024 cross country season, the Golden Lions are now focusing on conditioning and preparing for the indoor track and field season.
