UAPB Baseball: Four Pitchers Combined For Shutout Win Over Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. —Four pitchers combined to toss a shutout on Wednesday as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team blanked the Memphis Tigers 2-0.

Sophomore Andrew Duran started on the mound for UAPB, going three shutout innings without giving up a hit, walking three, and striking out two. Junior Brandon Little was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking one and striking out three.

Offensively, the Golden Lions were paced by junior Karsten Vasquez, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Freshman Carlos Velez put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Sophomore Dante Leach also helped out for UAPB, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Golden Lions took the lead for good in the third, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. UAPB managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Golden Lions will be back in conference play this weekend against Texas Southern for a three-game series at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.  The first pitch is set for Friday, April 29, at 3 p.m.
