The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team came up short against the University of Tennessee at Martin with a final score of 3-2 Tuesday evening at the Torii Hunter Complex.

The Golden Lions came out with tons of energy to begin the game giving the Skyhawks a hard time to get things going.

UAPB got the ball rolling at the bottom of the fourth inning with senior Nick Kreutzer being walked to first base. Junior Andrew Enwiya hit a triple to the left-center field, allowing Kreutzer to score the first run for the Golden Lions and Enwiya gaining the RBI to get UAPB on the board.

The Golden Lions held onto their lead to the top of the seventh inning making things hard for the Skyhawks. However, the Skyhawks would fight back in the seventh inning, gaining three runs to take a 3-1 lead over UAPB.

The Golden Lions didn’t let the scoreboard stop them from giving their all, however. After sophomores Timothy Martin and Karsten Vasquez both hit two fliers out that had the potential of being home runs in the eighth inning, Kreutzer stepped up to the plate again to make his presence known. Kreutzer hit a home run for the Golden Lions to left-center field to pick up the RBI and bring the score to 3-2 at the bottom of the eighth inning.

With hope still alive in the bottom of the ninth inning, hits from UAPB found their way to a Skyhawk glove to close the game out with a final score of 3-2.

“We played clean baseball today, making some great plays today and had no errors which gives us something positive to build on moving forward”, said UAPB head coach Carlos James about his team’s polished play against Tennessee-Martin.

Golden Lion baseball will return to action in a three-game series on the road against the Southern University Jaguars over the weekend beginning Friday, April 30th at Lee-Hines Field.
