The Great American Conference released its 2022 preseason coaches poll for Women’s Golf on Tuesday afternoon. Second year Head Coach Ken Hamilton and the rest of the women’s golf program were voted in sixth overall as the fall season nears opening.

“I guess it is best to say that we did have a rough Spring season, so I am not surprised by the ranking,” said Coach Hamilton. “I think the players all had pretty good summers in the various tournaments they competed in. All have arrived with great attitudes and high expectations. I have high expectations of this team as well. We will know pretty quick where we stand. Our 1st event is the Central Region Preview. I believe we will be ready to play.”

During the 2021-22 season, The Blossoms closed out the GAC tournament with a 5th place finish as returner Gabriela Maldonado led the team throughout the tournament. She closed out the final round of the GAC tournament with a 7th place, individual finish. Chiara Sturaro returns to UAM for her junior season after earning All-GAC Women’s Golf Second Team honors as well as competing in the Central Regional. Sturaro earned a 23rd place finish in the regional tournament.

Henderson State successfully defended their title at the GAC Championships, won their first NCAA Central Regional and finished ninth at the NCAA National Championships.

Southwestern Oklahoma State edged out Harding and Arkansas Tech for second place in the poll.

The Lady Bisons took third, to match their team finish at the GAC Championships. The Golden Suns finished in fourth and Oklahoma Baptist claimed fifth.

Southern Arkansas, Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State rounded out the voting after UAM.
