MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball program announced the addition of Katie Cornelius to the coaching staff as a Graduate Assistant for the 2021 fall season, Head Coach Jocelyn Garcia revealed Thursday.

“I would like to thank Coach Garcia for the opportunity to be a part of the outstanding program that she has created,” said Cornelius. “I am extremely grateful and excited to have the chance to learn from her and start my coaching career.”

Cornelius spent the previous three years playing for the University of Lynchburg volleyball team. She competed in 27 matches for the Hornets tallying 438 assists.

Prior to her time at the University of Lynchburg, Cornelius attended West Liberty University where she appeared in 14 matches as a freshman.

“We were first introduced to Katie in December of 2020 when we began our search for a graduate assistant,” Coach Garcia said. “Unfortunately, we learned Katie was set to graduate in May of 2021 and could not join us for spring semester. That being said, we truly believed she was the right person for the job and would be worth the wait. We are thrilled to finally have Katie join our staff! She brings such great energy that we believe will benefit our program immensely.”

A native of Manassas, Virginia, Cornelius attended Stonewall Jackson High School where she was a four-year starter and All-District selection for the volleyball team.

Katie received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Lynchburg in Physical Education with a minor in Coaching in 2021. She is pursuing a master’s degree in Physical Education and Coaching at UAM.
