UAM ROLLS TO SERIES SWEEP

Hudson Hopkins

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The offense continued to roll as the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team cruised to a game three win and series sweep over Southern Nazarene Sunday. The Weevils put together their third-consecutive contest with double-digit hits en route to a 17-0 victory at Weevils Field.

UAM improves to 14-14 overall on the season and 13-11 in Great American Conference play while drops to 5-25 and 5-19.

The scoring started early for the UAM offense when Dylan Borman crushed a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.

In the next frame Hudson Hopkins launched a leadoff round tripper to center field putting the Weevils up 3-0.

Matt Lundh got the start on the bump for UAM and worked around a lone base runner in each of the first two innings.

The Weevils turned to Livan Cordova out of the bullpen to start the third as he put the Storm down in order in the frame.

The offense got back to work in the bottom of the third batting around to plate nine runs. Jordan Johnson doubled, Borman walked and Aaron Gaela singled to load the bases to open the frame before Hopkins drove in two more runs with a single to left field. Following a walk to Audy Clary to load the bases again, Grant ShepherdCole Muckleroy and Cade Thompson hit back-to-back-to-back doubles scoring five runs in the process. Johnson capped the big inning with his fourth long ball of the series sending a two-run blast over the batter’s eye in center field.

Cordova worked another scoreless frame in the fourth before giving way to Connor Wilkerson on the mound to begin the fifth inning.

In the home half of the fifth UAM tacked on four more runs thanks to a bases loaded walk by Gaela, a two-run double by Hopkins and a fielding error by SNU that allowed Gaela to score.

After two frames without allowing a run by Wilkerson, the Weevils brought in Trent Clark who made quick work of the Storm in the sixth with a 1-2-3 inning.

Johnson put the cherry on top of his big series in the bottom of the sixth knocking an RBI-double into the gap in left center to score Deshaun Cordova.

Ojani Chacon closed down the victory in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts to preserve the shutout as UAM won 17-0.

Johnson continued his strong series at the plate going 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in game three.

Hopkins added a career-high five RBI in the contest while going 3-for-4 with a home run.

Wilkerson (W, 1-1) picked up the win dealing 2.0 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and striking out two.

Lundh and Cordova each worked 2.0 innings on the mound for the Weevils as well.

Clark and Chacon finished the shutout dealing scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh.

Payne Maga (W, 1-5) took the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits in 2.0 inning for SNU.
