Monticello, AR- The University of Arkansas at Monticello has hired Michael Davila to fill the position of Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students, according to Dr. Moses Goldmon, Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement. He assumed the role December 16.
Davila serves as chief student conduct officer for the institution, and provides oversight for judicial affairs, university counseling, residence life, intramurals and recreation, student programs and activities, and student health services.
“Michael brings student affairs experience that makes him a wonderful fit for UAM, and I look forward to having him as part of our team,” said Goldmon.
Most recently, Davila was dean of students at Navarro College in Texas for four years, where he provided leadership to the areas of counseling services, academic advising, student success and retention, tutoring, first year experience, and student conduct. He also has held student affairs roles at Austin College and Texas Wesleyan. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from East Texas Baptist University and a Masters of Education in higher education from Dallas Baptist University. He also has a doctoral degree in Higher Educational Leadership in progress through Texas Christian University.
While he’s lived in Texas most of his life, Davila is Little Rock native and is excited to return to the state and begin working with UAM students. “What drew me to UAM was its unique mission of being an open-access, regionally-minded university in this rural setting,” he said. “What made me decide to come to UAM was the people – and especially, the students. I could not be more excited to get to know them, work with them, and see them be successful.” He’s recently moved to Monticello from Fort Worth with his dog Pippin.
