The University of Arkansas at Monticello has received a $50,000 grant to support visual arts, according to the McGehee Dermott Times-News.

In its Sept. 30 edition, the newspaper said the grant came from the Windgate Foundation and will provide some of the first funding for designated specifically for students seeking art degrees.

In addition to scholarships for art majors, UAM will be able to buy technology to support new graphic design course offerings in the university’s School of Arts and Humanities.

The newspaper reported that the Windgate Foundation is headquartered in Little Rock and has awarded grants to non-profit public charities with a special interest in art and art education. This was the first Wndgate grant awarded to UAM.

“Our academic offerings continue to expand to meet student interest and industry needs,” Crystal Halley, UAM interim vice chancellor for academic affairs. “The Windgate Foundation grant allows us to support our new graphic design courses with state-of-the-art resources.”
