Two Southeast Arkansas residents were killed in separate traffic accidents Monday.

The victims were identified as Anthony Bishop Heard, 59, of Sheridan and Perry Lee Reed, 65, of Monticello.

According to preliminary reports from the Arkansas State Police, Heard was northbound on State Highway 35 in Grant County when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving while negotiating a curve in the 9000 block. The vehicle crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle driven by Glenn Charles Sligh, 65, of El Dorado near the southbound ditch.

Sligh and a passenger in his vehicle, Cathy W. Sligh, 65, also of El Dorado were injured and taken to Saline Memorial Hospital at Benton.

The report does not indicate the type of vehicle involved in the accident.

That accident was reported at 1:25 p.m. with road conditions described as wet and cloudy skies with heavy rain.

Reed was killed in a one-vehicle accident on Lacey New Hope Road at Guy Daughtery Road in Drew County at 11:09 p.m. A preliminary report from the State Police said he was a passenger in a 2006 Dodge Ram driven by Clark Kent Goudy, 53, of Monticello who reportedly lost control of the vehicle and entered the westbound ditch, striking a tree on the passenger side. The vehicle then turned and hit another tree head-on before coming to final rest.

Goudy was injured and taken to Drew Memorial Hospital at Monticlello for treatment.

Road conditions were described as wet at the time of the accident.

The two deaths bring to 228 the number of people killed in accidents on the state’s highways so far this year.
