Two Pine Bluff residents were killed and a third injured in a one-vehicle traffic accident in Pulaski County Tuesday afternoon.
According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, John Howell, 85, and Shirley White Banks, 69, were passengers in a 2006 Nissan driven by Evelyn Howell, 69, that was southbound on I-530 at mile marker 4 when the vehicle ran off the roadway to the left and struck the cable barrier on the left shoulder.
The vehicle then crossed both lanes of southbound traffic, ran off the roadway to the right, overturned and struck a tree.
John Howell and Shirley White Banks were killed and Evelyn Howell was injured and taken to UAMS.
The accident was reported at 2:02 p.m. and the deaths bring to 636 the number people killed in the state’s highways so far this year.
