Two people were killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle accident in Hot Springs Monday.

According to a preliminary report, Robert G. Newton, 76, and Joyce M. Newton, 75, both of Leona were passengers in a 2017 Ford Edge driven by Kenneth W. Newton, 73, also of Leola that turned in front of another vehicle on U.S. Highway 270 east at 1:19 p.m.

The report said the Ford was attempting to make a left turn from a private drive and traveled north in the eastbound lanes of the highway and into the path of a 1992 Chevrolet S-10 driven by Christopher Rogers, 40, of Malvern.

The two victims both died at Hot Springs hospitals. Kenneth Newton and Rogers were both injured in the accident.

The two deaths bring to 435 the number of people killed on the state’s highways so far this year.
