A Pine Bluff man was killed in a vehicle accident Friday morning on Highway 63 in Jefferson County.
59-year-old Nathaniel Scott, Jr. was driving a 2014 Hyundai Sonata south on Highway 63 at 11:30 a.m. when his vehicle began to veer right towards a guardrail at the Boggy Bayou bridge near Pleasant Drive, according to a report from the Arkansas State Police.
The vehicle then struck the guardrail with the passenger side, causing Scott, Jr. to over-correct his steering before veering left towards a concrete bridge rail. He then struck the concrete barrier head on.
Scott, Jr. was transported to Jefferson Regional Hospital for treatment, but later succumbed to his injuries.
It was cloudy and the road was dry at the time of the crash, according to the report.
To date 427 people have died in crashes on Arkansas highways in 2024.
