UPDATE: Three people, to include one juvenile, were detained and questioned about a Tuesday night shooting on West Jones Street that left 18-year-old Patrick Coleman dead according to a report obtained by Deltaplex News from the Pine Bluff Police Department.

According to the report a female identified as “Star” was detained after indicating to police that she may be a suspect involved in the case. Sources tell Deltaplex News that “Star” is 18-year-old Star Ellis.

A second female, Anosha Brunson, was detained alongside Star after indicating she was present when the shooting took place. Both females were then transported to the detective’s office for questioning where it was discovered that Brunson is 17-years-old. Her mother was contacted at that point and was sent to the detective’s office so her daughter could be questioned.

A third person, 18-year-old Shamar Redix, was located at a White Hall address. Redix was also detained and taken to the Pine Bluff detective’s office for questioning.

Ellis and Redix are both students at White Hall High School, while Brunson is a student at Watson Chapel High School.

At this point no arrests have been made. It is still uncertain if Coleman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, or if he died at the hands of another person.

Coleman’s body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy. Detectives hope to be able to determine if the wound was self-inflicted or not at that time.

ORIGINAL STORY:

On January 21, 2025, just before midnight, Officers of the Pine Bluff Police Department responded to a report that a person had shot themselves near 6401 W. Jones.

When officers arrived, they found 18-year-old Patrick Coleman Jr. lying in the street in the 6400 block of W. Jones. Coleman had an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were informed that there were several people with the male at the time he was shot. All had left the scene prior to officers’ arrival. Some of those present at the time of the death have been located and are being questioned at the time of this release.

Detectives are investigating this death as a homicide until proven otherwise.
