Longtime Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder has released his debut solo song.

Titled “Haenim,” the track is a cover of a song originally written by influential Korean guitarist Shin Joong Hyun. Schroeder’s version updates the original with a shoegaze, Pumpkins-esque guitar sound, and features vocals from Korean American singer Heeya So.

“The song is about finding a certain type of spiritual rejuvenation out in the countryside — being refreshed and renewed by the experience of being close to nature,” Schroeder says. “I really liked what it was about, particularly considering what the world has gone through for the past year.”

You can download “Haenim” now via digital outlets. Its accompanying, psychedelic video is streaming now on YouTube.

Schroeder joined The Smashing Pumpkins in 2007 after frontman Billy Corgan reformed the group in 2006, and has remained with the band since then. The group’s current lineup also features original members James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, who rejoined the band in 2018 and 2015, respectively.
