The second annual John H. Johnson Day event will he held virtually Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m.

Johnson, an Arkansas native, was publisher of Ebony and Jet magazines and founder, publisher, chairman and CEO of Johnson Publishing Company, once the largest black-owned publishing company in the world.

According to the McGehee-Dermott Times News, the Arkansas General Assembly in 2019 established the John H. Johnson holiday.

The newspaper reported that friends of the John H. Johnson Museum, curators of John H. Johnson Day will recognize four individuals “who embody the spirit of Johnson through their work.”

The four include Dr. Mary Benjamin of Pine Bluff who will receive the John H. Johnson Humanitarian Award and Jimmy Cunningham who will receive the John H. Johnson Business and Entrepreneur Award.
