Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., said Tuesday his office is always looking for ways to improve the programs and services they provide to the community and one of them is to try and deal with food insecurity.

Appearing on Talk Back Live with Floyd Donald, Woods explained what the sheriff’s department is doing.

Local churches and organized non-profit are setting up food banks, as are local businesses like Southeast Engravers but the need far outweighs what is currently being done.

He was also asked where the food comes from.

Woods said anyone in need should contact Alicia Dorn at the sheriff’s department at 870-329-5638.

“If you say you’re in need we will deliver it,” Woods said, adding that callers don’t have to give their name, just an address. “If you’re not home we will leave it on the porch.”
