Taraji P. Henson has landed a new role. Deadline reports the Oscar-nominated actress will be starring in Time Alone, a film adapted from Alessandro Camon’s acclaimed play of the same name. She’ll play Anna, the mother of a police officer killed in the line of duty. Henson will also produce under her TPH Entertainment company. “With Time Alone, Alessandro Camon’s unique outlook on social injustices and a fractured society offers a new look at empathy and compassion, which is more relevant now than ever,” Henson said in a statement. “I’m honored to collaborate with Alessandro and this team of producers to bring his heartfelt play to the screen and to share this story with a wider audience.”
A Black Lady Sketch Show is officially returning next month for season three. On Wednesday, HBO released the first teaser for the new episodes. The six-episode season stars show creator Robin Thede, Gabrielle Dennis, Ashley Nicole Black and Skye Townsend, and will feature a slew of celebrity guest appearances. Season three gets underway April 8 at 11 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
Deadline reports filmmakers Stanley Nelson and Jacqueline Olive are teaming up to direct the documentary The Color of Cola, based on Stephanie Capparell’s 2008 book, The Real Pepsi Challenge: How One Pioneering Company Broke Color Barriers in 1940s American Business. The story follows the experience of the all-Black sales team at Pepsi, a first for corporate America. Viola Davis and husband Julius Tennon will executive-produce the doc under their JuVee Productions.
