The Star City Area Chamber of Commerce hosted an informational event Wednesday, August 11, with Dr. Greg Bledsoe, the current surgeon general of the Arkansas Health Department and health advisor to Governor Asa Hutchinson.

The event was put in place by Reid Robertson who is the chamber’s current administrative assistant. Robertson wanted an event to get more information out about COVID-19 and related vaccines.

Dr. Bledsoe’s presentation was titled Expedition Medicine and the Covid-19 Vaccines. Bledsoe described working directly with patients who have come in contact with the virus. He stated expedition medicine and vaccines are the best options to combat the virus.

He and his family have come in contact with the Covid-19 virus and are all vaccinated. Bledsoe described the new COVID variants, such as the delta variant, as “a lot more contagious”.

Bledsoe described two different ways to combat COVID-19 and its variants: prevention and treatment.

Bledsoe recommended the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA Vaccines as the most effective. He explained the process that happens after the mRNA vaccination is given.

In February 2021, Bledsoe announced he’s running for Lieutenant Governor and is still on the ballot for the March 2022 primary elections.
