A $2,500 bond was set Monday for a Stuttgart man who led State Police on a high-speed chase on Interstate 530 Saturday.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Jerome Cox, 32, with felony fleeing.

During the court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Karres Manning Center said troopers were working a saturation campaign on I-530 at 9:20 p.m. when Sgt. Jay Preston, who was southbound, saw a vehicle approaching him from the rear traveling 86 miles per hour in a 65-mile zone. Preston slowed down and let the vehicle pass him and at exit 37, the driver, late identified as Cox, began to slow down and pull to the right shoulder.

Preston reported that the vehicle turned back north on the exit ramp and he crossed over in an attempt to block it.

Manning said Cox has no prior convictions or pending charges.

He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor speeding, driving without headlights, and careless and prohibited driving. He said he would hire his own attorney.
