State Police are investigating the discovery of a body found Saturday along U.S. 65 in Chicot County near the Arkansas and Louisiana border, according to an Arkansas State Police news release.
Because the body was in an extended state of decomposition officers were unable to determine if the body was that of a man or a woman, according to the release.
The body is being transported to the state Crime Lab for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death and for possible identification.
State Police agents are contacting area law enforcement agencies to inquire about missing person reports.
The investigation is ongoing, according to State Police.
