LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An additional 18 deaths due to the illness caused by the coronavirus were reported Saturday by the Arkansas Department of Health, in addition to 314 more confirmed or suspected virus cases in the state.
There have been 326,813 confirmed or suspected cases and 5,455 deaths since the pandemic began, according to the health department.
The death toll is the 28th highest in the country overall and the 16th highest per capita at 180.4 deaths per 100,000 people, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
The seven-day rolling average of deaths in the state has increased during the past two weeks from 10 per day on Feb. 25 to 22 on Thursday, according to the Johns Hopkins data, while the seven-day rolling average of new cases decreased during the same time frame, from 560.7 daily to 310.
Arkansas ranked 17th in the nation in new cases per capita with 260.8 per 100,000 population, according to the Johns Hopkins data.
