A letter to seniors in the Star City School District said administrators from the district will be in contact with each senior to inform them of their graduation status, device return and any outstanding charges.

According to the letter, the district is reaching out to the seniors to let them know if there are things they need to do to graduate.

Johnny Key, the director of the State Department of Education recently said that seniors who had successfully completed the first three nine weeks of school would be considered to have earned the number of credits needed to graduate. That period ended just before schools in the state were closed by Governor Asa Hutchinson because of the Corona virus.

This week, Hutchinson shut down the schools for the remainder of this school year.

The letter also mentioned prom and graduation commencement and said that “The high school administration is doing all we can to hold these events, however, due to CDC and state guidelines, it may not be possible. The High School will send updates regarding both of these events as soon as possible.”

Also, the district said they are currently planning to go ahead with summer school unless they receive guidelines from CDC that contradicts the plan. It could be that summer school courses could only be offered online and district administrators will send more information about summer school when it becomes available.

In a separate letter, kindergarten teachers are asking parents of children who will be eligible for kindergarten this fall to complete two forms online at https://smore.com/unk39 to register. The website will also provide information on what documents will be needed to finalize registration.

Children must be 5 years old on or before Aug. 1, 2020, have an identification number (social security number of school assigned number), proof of immunization and proof of residency. Those who do not live in the Star City School District may select the School Choice Option. The deadline for the School Choice applications for the 2020-2021 school year is May 1. For more information about this option, contact the district office at 1-866-446-3647.
