According to SEARK Today, Star City School District and Yorktown Water Association held a joint ceremony on Thursday, July 15 to dedicate each of their new solar projects in collaboration with Arkansas’ Today’s Power, Inc.

The article described the two solar projects that equal 1.5 megawatts and occupy approximately 12 acres of land. All energy generated by the two arrays will be sold to the Star City School District and Yorktown Water for the duration of the 20-year Solar Power Services Agreement.

The Star City School District and Yorktown Water last year chose Today’s Power, Inc. to provide solar-generated power. After receiving all regulatory and utility approvals, construction on the 1.5 MW system began in late 2020 and was completed in June 2021.

“Through technology and collaboration, this project exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to meeting the future needs of both the school district and Yorktown Water,” said TPI President Michael Henderson. “This project demonstrates that working together to co-locate their individual projects at one location saves on-site development, construction efficiencies, and grid interconnection costs, resulting in overall savings for SCSD and YWA.”

Henderson said C&L Electric was an excellent partner in making this project a success.

The article added that the Star City School District array is a 1-Megawatt single-axis tracking array that was built to save the school district on their electricity costs by generating approximately 1,970,000 kWh annually. Which accounts for approximately 75 percent of the District’s electricity needs, while C&L Electric Cooperative will provide the remaining 25 percent.

Jordan Frizzell, Star City School District Superintendent was mentioned and said, “The Star City School District is proud to be a part of this project. We want to find innovative ways to take care of our environment while being fiscally responsible. As a pillar in the Star City community, for the school district to be able to find ways to produce clean, renewable energy while saving money, this is a great opportunity that benefits everyone.”
