A special called meeting of the Pine Bluff City Council that was scheduled for Monday has been cancelled.

City Clerk Janice Roberts sent out a notice to council members and members of the media about the cancellation just before 10:30 a.m.

That meeting had been schedule to consider a resolution increasing the salary of the police chief from $90,125 to $115,000 which Mayor Shirley Washington said was the amount that Robert Jones, who is her choice for Chief, would take to come to Pine Bluff from Kingsland, Georgia, where he is currently police chief.

Current Police Chief Kelvin Sergeant is due to retire at the end of the month.

At a meeting of the City Council’s Administration Committee Friday, a resolution on the salary increase received a do-not pass vote.

The notice from Clerk Roberts did not indicate a make-up date for the special meeting.
