Last week, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team was called out to assist the Pine Bluff Police Department SWAT team in their search for a capital murder suspect.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show Wednesday, they talked about that request and about SWAT in general.

He said when the sheriff’s department first acquired the vehicle, there was a “big uproar” which he said was because of incidents in Ferguson, Missouri where police there used military-style vehicles to quell rioters.

“That’s not what we wanted,” Woods said. “We weren’t going to use it for routine patrols but there are certain situations that call for it.”

Woods was asked about the relationship between Pine Bluff Police and his department, not just in that case but in general.
