Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. talked about the need for additional revenue Tuesday when he appeared on the Oldies 101.3 morning show with Greg Horne and Will Jenkins.

Asked about the number of deputies patrolling the unincorporated areas of the county, Woods said four on day shift, and two on graveyard shift, although at one point in time, there was only one on graveyard.

He also said that number was inadequate to do the job.

Woods said he has received calls when people see county cars in the city limits and think they are patrolling when in fact, some of those cars are probably taking people to and from court, to and from the jail and to and from the hospital.

He said the cars are not marked transport or civil division and some people get the wrong impression of what they are doing.

Woods also talked about the Saracen Casino Annex reopening Monday.
