Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. has released a statement following the death of Stuttgart police officer Sgt. Donald Scoby, who was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a suspect.
That statement is as follows:
On today, December 15, 2022, we learned that Sergeant Donald Scoby of the Stuttgart Police Department was shot and killed in the line of duty overnight while he was attempting to apprehend a suspect.
As Sheriff of Jefferson County, it is with the heaviest heart that I extend condolences on behalf of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to the family, friends, and fellow officers of Stuttgart Police Department Sergeant Donald Scoby.
We ask that the community join us in thoughts and prayers for our law enforcement family in Arkansas County as they process and grieve this great loss.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will lower flags to half-staff in honor of Sergeant Scoby immediately and they will remain at half-staff through the day of interment.
