As cases of COVID-19 decrease around the state, things are beginning to open up and that includes the number of prisoners that are being held at the adult detention center.

For most of the past year, the jail has been holding only people charged with violent felonies or those arrested for domestic battery. Everyone else has been given court appearance tickets and released.

On Wednesday, Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr., told Deltaplex News that while that is still the case, it’s gradually changing)

Woods said jail administrators and others are looking at the numbers every day, every week, and what is being done at other jails around the state. He said they also rely on legal counsel from the Association of Arkansas Counties.
