An inadvertent lockdown alert in the Sheridan School District caused panic and concern for students, teachers, and parents on Thursday morning.
Several parents reached out to Deltaplex News staff members when the alert took place to express their concerns.
The district released an initial statement saying it was an inadvertent notification. Now Superintendent Chad Pitts has released an additional statement. That statement is shared below:
Statement from Chad Pitts, Superintendent of the Sheridan School District:
The Sheridan School District has recently been working closely with the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to implement Rave Alert, a widely-used emergency notification system designed to help keep our schools and communities safe. Earlier this morning, during an initial test of the system, an error occurred. A test notification that was intended for only a small group of five individuals was mistakenly sent to a larger number of school employees across various parts of the District.
We understand the confusion and concern this may have caused, and we sincerely apologize for any distress this situation may have created. Both the Sheridan School District and the Office of Emergency Management are actively investigating the cause of this error and are taking immediate steps to ensure that it does not happen again in the future.
The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community are our top priority, and we remain committed to maintaining transparent communication as we work through this matter. Thank you for your understanding.
