The Sheridan School Board voted last week to reject recommendations to expel two students accused in a drug related incident in April at a track meet.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, the board voted 4-3 in siding with the two students after separate, public hearings.

Superintendent Jerrod Williams had recommended that the students be expelled for the rest of the school year and into next year.

The newspaper reported that police had been sent to the school where they found two juveniles who were ill and they told police that they had consumed chocolate that might have contained THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.

The chocolate or any other drugs were not found.

Following a school-based investigation, several students were suspended and offered diversion programs to avoid being expelled but two students and their parents requested hearings before the board which were granted.
