A Sheridan man is in custody in Sharp County after leading police on a high speed chase through the Hardy area.

Christopher Keith was staying at the Days Inn in Hardy on Monday with his girlfriend and her 12 year old daughter. Police were notifiied of a situation going on in the room where Keith became irate.

The woman and the child were able to flee and Keith went to the lobby of the hotel and began threating the hotel’s owner and other employee’s with a large knife and yelling.

He then jumped in his vehicle and drove to another hotel and crashed into the building.  When police arrived, he led them on a high speed chase with speeds reaching upwards of 100 mph, before crashing. After a brief standoff, he was taken into custody.
