The Sheridan City Council voted last week to increase the fees the Sheridan Detention Center charges for housing prisoners.
According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, Grant County was excluded from the increase,
Police Chief Jason Teague told the council that the city makes a significant amount of money from housing prisoners, but prices have gone up in recent years.
At his request, the fee was increased to $40 per day, regardless of the sex of the person being held. Previously, the city charged one fee for males and a second for females.
The newspaper also reported that the city and county have held numerous discussions in the past about a fee increase.
