At its most recent meeting, the Sheridan City Council voted to increase the fine for discharging a firearm inside the city limits.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, City Attorney Ed Koon said the current ordinance has exceptions for law enforcement officers and those using a firearm in self-defense.

He said the current fine, $50, is not worth proceeding and when asked how much he would recommend, said a current noise control ordinance carries a fine of up to $500 with some discretion by the judge on a case-by-case basis.

The council voted to increase the fine from $50 to $500, the newspaper said,
