Pine Bluff Police have confirmed that a 19-year-old man booked into the adult detention center Monday night is one of the suspects in the shooting death of Detective Kevin Collins at the Econo Lodge on Blake Street.

Appearing on the Oldies 101.3 morning show Tuesday, Police Chief Kelvin Sergeant said:

The suspect, KeShone Quanterious Smith, is being held without bond pending a probable cause hearing and the filing of formal charges.

Collins, Lt. Ralph Issac and Detective Kelsey Collins were assigned to the Violent Crimes Unit and Sergeant was asked what their purpose was in going to the motel.

He also confirmed that the follow up was in reference to Smith, who was a murder suspect in Georgia.

In addition to the fatal injuries to Collins, Issac and Kelsey Collins were also shot, and Sergeant said Issac was “resting well” in a hospital. Kelsey Collins was wearing a bullet proof vest and Sergeant said a bullet impacted the vest but did not penetrate.

Other suspects in the incident will be named later.
