Southeast Arkansas College will be adding athletics this fall, beginning with baseball and softball, and adding men’s and women’s basketball in the fall of 2024.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show Tuesday, college president Dr. Stephen Bloomberg talked about a capital campaign that has begun to improve the facilities that will be used.

At a press conference held Tuesday Bloomberg announced that Relyance Bank donated $250,000 to kick off the $3million capital campaign.

Morning show host Greg Horne told Bloomberg that the school adding sports is a “big deal, not only for SEARK but also for Southeast Arkansas.”

With a hotel planned adjacent to the Pine Bluff Convention Center and a second at Saracen Casino, Horne said that high school teams who come to Pine Bluff to play in tournaments like King Cotton will stay at the hotel at the convention center and asked Bloomberg if the same held true for college teams who come to Pine Bluff to take on SEARK.
