Southeast Arkansas College held its monthly meeting Wednesday, March 8th to discuss several action items on its agenda including funding for the construction of the campus’s student dorms. Present at the meeting included President Steven Bloomberg, chair Rebecca Pitillo, board trustees, and other staff.

The first item of business was the approval of the board minutes of their February meeting, September 2022, and special board meetings that took place in October, November, and December of 2022.

In new business, personnel actions and finance reports were addressed to update the board on the progress of the projects underway and budget adjustments to go toward the construction of some of those projects.

After the meeting, Deltaplex News spoke with Bloomberg who further explained these actions and the plans underway.

That housing will be located at 6808 S Hazel Street and Bloomberg went on to explain how the location of the housing is great for the college.

The next item of the discussion was the approval of the post-issuance tax compliance policy which was adopted for the college so that the board follows the adequate procedures and remedial action applicable to tax-advantaged loans, bonds, notes, leases, or certificates of participation.

Next on the agenda were academic program changes which included the deactivation of several programs to pause them for up to five years due to a lack of student enrollment in those degree areas. A program was also deleted due to the Nursing program replacing that option. Dean of Nursing Joyce Scott spoke to the board about the deletion.

The board went on to the next item of discussion which was the board’s annual retreat which takes place March 31st.

During the Presidents’ report, Bloomberg introduced new employees including Chad Kline as the new Athletic Director and Head Basketball coach along with Ka’Lisa Stanfield who will reside as Dean of Students. He also introduced the Chief of campus police, Sgt. Richard Wegner who was hired this past Monday.

Bloomberg closed out his report with updates on spring enrollment to the board.

The college will host a press conference to formally announce its athletic program, Kline as AD, and Stanfield as Dean of Students on March 14th.
