The Southeast Arkansas College called a special board meeting on Wednesday, December 15th to discuss two items on their agenda in reference to graduation and their mask mandate. SEARK President Steven Bloomberg spoke to the board about the list of graduates that was recommended for approval for their fall graduates in which they approved.

The Fall 2021 graduates that will partake in a virtual/in-Person Commencement is scheduled for Friday, December 17, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. at SEARK at Seabrook. For more information, SEARK stated that persons can email the Registrar’s Office at [email protected] with questions.

On the topic of the mask mandate, Bloomberg explained to the board what he was recommending for approval moving towards the Spring 2022 semester.

Member of the board of trustees for SEARK, Kenneth Johnson made the motion to approve Bloomberg’s recommendation to allow the administration team to choose if their mask mandate would need to be optional, updated, or reinforced going into the Spring Semester. Bloomberg explained to the board that the college’s vaccine rate is low with about 50% of faculty and staff fully vaccinated and approximately between 25-30% of students fully vaccinated.

After being asked about the administration’s effort to encourage vaccines on campus, Bloomberg responded to the board explaining those efforts including incentives.

The next board meeting takes place on January 12th two days after the first day of Spring Classes that begin on January 10th.
