24-year-old Anthony Langley Jr. was killed by police after opening fire on officers.

ATKINS, Ark. (AP) — Police in western Arkansas fatally shot a man who had opened fire on officers, authorities said.

The Atkins Police Department said an officer responded Tuesday morning to reports of someone armed with a handgun “exhibiting aggressive behavior” and pointing his weapon at drivers. The department in a release said the man immediately began firing at the officer and fled into a wooded area.

The man, later identified by Arkansas State Police as 24-year-old Anthony Langley Jr. of Russellville, again fired at officers after they began a manhunt, police said.

Officers returned fire, killing Langley. No officers were injured, police said.

The investigation has been turned over to the Arkansas State Police, who will present their findings to the local prosecutor.
