The Jefferson County Quorum Court will have a special called meeting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to decide the fate of a resolution extending the contract between the county and Jefferson Regional Hospital until 2099.

The legislation was tabled during the regular meeting of the county’s legislative body Monday.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show, Count Judge Gerald Robinson was asked what was going on with that and answered this way.

Morning show host Greg Horne then asked Robinson if he was talking about the main hospital, rather than the proposed new facility in White Hall.

He said the proposed new facility is projected to cost $50 million and will create over 100 new jobs.

To clear up what are some apparent misunderstandings, Robinson explained that the county owns all the land and buildings used by the hospital, which is operated by the Jefferson Hospital Association, a not-for-profit corporation.

Asked by Horne why any of the justices of the peace would be against extending the contract, Robinson said he did not know.
