Text messages asking people to buy gift cards as gifts for Jefferson County employees that were allegedly sent by Jefferson County Judge Gerald Robinson are a scam, according to both Robinson and his office.

A screen shot of one of the messages provided to Deltaplex News said Robinson is asking the recipient for a favor, to go out and buy $500 in eBay gift  cards that  Robinson wants to use to give to county employees as a surprise.  The message goes on to say that the recipient is not to say anything to anyone else about buying the cards.

To prove that the message is from Robinson, it includes his home address, cell phone number, and email address.

Robinson said as soon as he found out about the texts, he asked his office to notify all the elected officials about the scam, and also put it on social media and notify the news media as well.

While the screen shot viewed by Deltaplex News did not include information on how to deliver the cards, Robinson said he had heard from one individual who had actually gone out and bought gift cards but that person contacted him and he was able to prevent the person from actually delivering the cards.

Anyone who receives this type text message should contact Robinson’s office and also contact the Attorney General’s Office in Little Rock.
