When Denise Richardson was named Pine Bluff Police Chief, she became the first female to reach the position who had started out as a recruit with the department 29, years ago.

Appearing on the Oldies 1013 morning show Thursday, Richardson said there had been men who became chief who also started out as recruits, but she was the first woman. She was hired by the late Chief Joe Thomas, who was the first black police officer and also the first black chief.

Asked by morning show host Greg Horne to discuss her goals as chief, Richardson started out by discussing accreditation, a subject now retired Chief Lloyd Franklin Sr., mentioned several times.

She was asked what she needed from the city, 9n addition to money to hire more offices, and responded this way.

She went on to talk about enforcing city laws and regulations.
