Before she was promoted to Chief of Police, Denise Richardson was in charge of the Detective Division and focused on identifying and arresting homicide suspects.

Since replacing now retired Chief Lloyd Franklin Sr., Richardson has kept up that focus and on Tuesday, was asked if she was making a conscious effort to have detectives put more effort into homicide investigations.

Richardson appeared on the Oldies 013 morning show just before 15-year-old Demonte Dorn and 20-year-old Darnell Ford appeared for a probable cause hearing on charges of capital murder, terroristic act, and possession of a prohibited firearm. The two were identified as suspects in the Dec. 25, 2021 shooting death of Deondrick Clark in the parking lot of Ernesto9’s on Blake Street.

Richardson also talked about the involvement of juveniles in a number of violent crimes, including murder.

She went on to say that in addition to juvenile suspects, some of the victims have been young.
