Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has announced a new solo album called Maya.

The record, due out October 23, is described as Frusciante’s “first instrumental electronic album under his own name.” He’s previously released electronic music under his Trickfinger moniker.

The title Maya refers to the name of Frusciante’s beloved cat, who recently passed away.

“Maya was with me as I made music for 15 years, so I wanted to name it after her,” Frusciante explains. “She loved music, and with such a personal title, it didn’t seem right to call myself Trickfinger, somehow, so it’s by John Frusciante.”

You can pre-order Maya now via Bandcamp.

Frusciante rejoined the Chili Peppers in 2019 after a 10-year absence from the band. With Frusciante back in the fold, the group has been supposedly working on a new album.
