The Jefferson County Quorum Court on Monday rejected a request from County Assessor Yvonne Humphrey to add a position to her office in the 2022 budget.

The vote failed to get the two-thirds majority needed to be adopted and after the meeting Humphrey was asked about the vote

County Judge Gerald Robinson was also asked about the vote and said this.

With no dissent, the county’s legislative body approved a resolution reappointing Glenn Barnes Sr., to a five-year term on the Economic Development Corp. of Jefferson County. The board administers the three-eights cent sales tax that was approved by county voters and is now no longer being collected.

Also approved was an ordinance appropriating a total of $59,841.89 to the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management.

According to a memorandum from OEM Director Karen Blevins, $36342.89 was received from FEMA for expenses incurred during the 2019 flood  and although it was received last year, it was not appropriated.

The remaining $23.800 was received from the sale of old equipment.

In the memorandum, Blevins asked that $4,000 be used for parts and repairs, an additional $6,000 for a replacement copies and the balance go toward the purchase of a reliable vehicle to be used when responding to emergencies.
