During this week’s Jefferson County Quorum Court meeting the court addressed the funding of many projects and approved them all without contest. To pay for the approved projects, funds will be transferred from the American Recovery Plan to Fund the 4802 special project construction fund for the water treatment in the city of Humphrey ($52,000) and Southeast Arkansas College to construct a new student center ($3m). The funding for improvements at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center and the Jack Jones Juvenile Justice Center was also approved through the ARPA ($374,387).

The Quorum Court approved two more ordinances on their agenda which included increasing the salaries for existing county clerk’s slots and to add a probation officer to Jefferson County State Court, Divisions I and II. The duties of that probation officer would include:

I. To supervise probationers in a timely and professional manner. All probationers should be seen at least once a month.

II. Monitoring for payment of fines, community service work completion, drug use, and compliance with all laws.

III. Assist Defendants with any needs and communication with the court.

IV. The successful candidate should have law enforcement training and/or experience, excellent communication skills, and courtroom experiment.

The court also approved a resolution certifying local government enforcement of Tyson Poultry Inc. to participate in the tax back program. This tax back program allows Tyson to receive the refund of local sales and use taxes accruing from construction and equipping of the Tyson facility.
