Schools in the Poyen School District are looking to make improvements after receiving state-issued report cards of their performance.

According to the Sheridan Headlight newspaper, the Elementary School received a B white Poyen High School received a C for the 2021-2022 school year.

Elementary School Principal Jamie Webb said the B was the only one given in Grant County and the school was also recognized as “A School of the Rise” because test scores went up.

He went on to tell the newspaper that the grade actually went up from the previous year when it received a C.

Webb said the school plans to focus on reading and math with an eye on improving those test scores.

At the high school. Principal Bryce Harrison said one area that needs to be improved is absenteeism, explaining that restrictions because of COVID allowed students to attend remotely and that proved to be less effective than traditional methods of education.
