The McGehee Dermott The Times-Newspaper featured an article about Mcgehee police who arrested a McGehee man Saturday after he reportedly assaulted a mother and three children.

According to McGehee police chief Scott Williams, the man arrested was 46-year-old Stephen W. McDaniel. Chief Williams said officers were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of north 4th street around 9:25 pm Saturday for a domestic disturbance.

Williams said when Sgt. Mark Harmon arrived at the scene, he spoke with the caller and one of the victims, McDaniel’s girlfriend. She told police that while she was out of the house, McDaniel had hurt her three children, ages 13, 9, and 6. She added that while she was gone, McDoniel struck them and choked the 13-year-old to the point of unconsciousness.

The mother also told police that when she attempted to leave the house with her children, McDaniel “blocked” her escape and prevented her from leaving the residence.

McGehee Police Department Criminal Investigator Terry Donaldson was called to the scene where he documented injuries sustained by the victims. McDaniel was arrested at the scene and transported to the McGehee City Jail. His charges include aggravated assault on a family or household member, domestic battery record degree, and false imprisonment second degree.

McDaniel had his first court appearance before Circuit Judge Crews Puryear where a bond of $10,000 was set and a no-contact order with the victims was issued.
