The voters have spoken and decided to reject a bid to extend the five-eights cent Go Forward Sales tax for another seven years.

With 3,925 people casting votes Tuesday, the Go Forward tax received 48.6 percent of the total vote while the no votes accounted for 51.4 percent of the vote.

Complete but unofficial results were as follows:

For the tax – 1,904

Against the tax – 2,021

Also voters turned down a three-eights cent sales tax increase that would have been devoted to public safety, this time by 20 votes.

Complete but unofficial results showed that 1,964 votes were cast opposing the tax while 1,944 votes favored the tax.

After the results were announced, Go Forward CEO Ryan Watley was asked where the organization goes from here.

The current five-eights cent tax will sunset in about a year and a half and Watley was asked if there is a possibility that it will be put back on another ballot when some of the projects currently underway are completed.

Watley went on to say  this.

Election Commission Chairman Mike Ada, told Deltaplex News that a total of seven provisional ballots were cast which will not be enough to reverse either vote.
