A Pine Bluff teen accused of fatally shooting his mother last week will be charged as an adult.

John Kearney, 17, was arrested last Friday in the death of his mother April Juarez, 39, the newspaper reported. According to police, the shooting happened at a house in the Dollarway area after Kearney and his mother got into an argument over him running away and returning home. A witness reportedly told investigators that Kearney grabbed a gun and shot his mother during the dispute.

Police were called about 9:32 p.m. March 29th to Juarez’s home at 29 S. Richard Drive and found her dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Kearney was reportedly sitting on a couch in the living room.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgeforth ruled Tuesday that prosecutors have probable cause to charge Kearney as an adult, the newspaper reported.

Kearney was being held at a juvenile detention center on $250,000 bond.
